Published Date: 2011/04 【Synopsis】 This is a first-person description story about the life of a twenty-year-old female undergraduate Xiao Xin and her mother Anna. Beginning from the young girl Anna, who came to the riverside to attempt suicide just because she graduated from elementary school and had to cut her long hair. A passing through hawker gave her one extra scoop of ice cream which made her happy and gave up the attempt on suicide. Totally, Anna’s life was quite difficult in some way, but the trifle matters such as that always could make her happy for a long time. For her, if life was painful, then the advantage Anna had was a kind of painkiller, which was called “keen on gaining petty advantages”. Anna was born in a poor family at the rural area of Yun Lin. She was adopted by people who lived in Shu Lin Taipei later. But her foster father abandoned her foster mother, and her foster mother passed away when she studied in Junior high school. She found a job after she was graduated from high school. She was pretty and like reading. She was sensitive, kind and optimistic despite the fact that she was less-educated. Sometimes she felt melancholy but most of the time she was very steadfast. She always gained some petty advantages, because she always ran into enthusiastic persons. They all admired her steadfastness, and were glad to support her with money, materials and encouragement. Anna was abandoned by her first lover, but she was still determined to give birth and raised her child on her own. Thereupon, the main narrator Xiao-Xin got the chance to come to the world and narrated their stories for her mother, herself and enthusiastic persons they encountered in daily life. The author’s key points were to describe life’s sorrow, cheerfulness, success and failure, as well as the precious friendship which Anna and Xia-Xin won when they lived in a big city. For this reason, they could genuinely thank the people, who have loved or hurt them, and made the story a comedy. 【About the Author】 She graduated from the department of history of National Taiwan University. She had won the essay award of Lin Rong-San Literature Award in 2006, 2007, and the fine piece of Lin Rong-San Fiction award in 2007, the first prize for junior award of Unitas Fiction Award in 2007, the second prize of Lin Rong-San Fiction Award in 2009, the second prize of United Daily News Literature Award in 2009. Many fortune-tellers had told her that she had literature talent star in her Chinese Astrology Chart. She was never serious to do the writing until her late thirty. She finally decided to be true to her own fate. |
