IntroductionBook-to-movie adaptations are all the rage in Taiwan, prompting Taiwanese publishers to be on the lookout for new markets. During the 20th Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) in 2012, the Book Meets Film Forum was launched to facilitate cooperation between the publishing and film industries in Asia and to increase the international presence of Chinese-language books
Producers who want to adapt books to movies are often intimidated by the lack of simple and straightforward access; in addition, publishing companies have very little connection with the film industry. The Book Meets Film Forum serves as a bridge between the two creative industries, helping increase the exposure of Chinese-language books through TV and movie adaptations. During the TIBE, the Book Meets Film Forum organizes promotion events and sets up individual meetings between producers and publishers for the year's recommended titles. The forum also schedules theme talks and case studies, where top players in the film, TV and publishing industries in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and mainland China are invited to share their experience in book-to-film adaptations. We look forward to the participation of friends from the film and publishing industries. By bringing the two worlds together, Chinese-language book-to-film adaptations will flourish.
